About

Andrew Phelps began dealing in vintage clothing in 1994.  What started as a means to help pay for books and living expenses while attending university, has become an obsession of nearly a quarter century.   Initially handling a very wide array of vintage clothing styles and periods, Andrew has honed his focus in on American work wear, outdoor and athletic clothing dating from the 1870’s through 1940’s.

The objective of High Grade U.S. Standard is to faithfully as possible, re-create obscure designs and fabrics from America’s past.  The criteria is high. Buttons and snaps are custom cast, not off the shelf.  The majority of the fabrics used are milled exclusively from scratch for High Grade U.S. Standard.  Many items are produced strictly on very limited edition runs. Current production is masterfully executed by Ooe Yofuketen of Ichinomiya, Japan.  In most cases, the same model of antique U.S. made machines, from the same time period as the original garment are utilized in construction.
